PBI Parent Letter
Dear Parents,
Starting this February we will be starting a 4-week long project in your child's Algebra 1A class. This project, entitled “Get in Line, it's Pizza Time,” will begin on February 1st and last until February 26th. In this project, the students will be divided into groups of three students and will be expected to gather information necessary to start a pizza company. This project has three main objectives: 1) Students will learn about lines and their equations and how they can be used in the real world, 2) Students will research potential factors necessary for starting their pizza company, and 3) Students will learn to communicate with each other in a professional manner. This project will be assessed based on a presentation done by the student groups and on a final test covering all of the material discussed throughout the project. In this 4 week period, each lesson will be focused towards this greater project. Additionally, on February 2nd the class will be taking a trip to Leonardo's pizzeria to get a closer look into what goes into running a pizza restaurant. The final presentations will also be judged by a panel of experts in the pizza industry, including a manager, a chef, and a delivery driver.
I feel that this project will be very enriching to your child, and I hope that you can help enhance your child's experience by doing one or more of the following:
· Granting your child resources to help them research the required information, such as using the home computer or taking them to the library to allow them to use the computers there.
· Frequently discussing the project with your child, and encouraging them.
· Checking over your child's work, and ensuring that they are working for at least some time on the project every day.
If you have any questions or concerns about this project feel free to contact me at [email protected] or by phone at (813)-867-5309.
Sincerely,
Ms. McNeill
