This education course examines the history of race in America and its implications for human potential, social status, and educational attainment. It pays particular attention to critical junctures in the development of public education and analyze implications of education policy for racialized groups in the United States. Topics to be discussed include the construction of Whiteness, the assimilation of Irish people within the White race, and the experiences of Native Americans, African Americans, and Latino cultures within public education.
